FACTORY

In a fantastical world of paper-cut aesthetics, souls enter the “Reincarnation Factory” after death—a necessary stop to forget past memories and embrace rebirth. Within the factory, the protagonist revisits the most precious moments of their life and confronts the act of forgetting. These cherished memories are transformed into the “fuel” that powers the factory.

The script is inspired by the “Near Death Experience,” a phenomenon commonly seen in modern indie games, depicting the surreal and dreamlike illusions people experience when approaching death.

STORY

The story follows an elderly grandmother who once lived in a lively home filled with her loving family. Her days were spent knitting, caring for plants, and nurturing her loved ones. Now, the once warm and bustling house is quiet, with only her and the memories of a vibrant past remaining.

CHARACTER DESIGN

The story portrays the grandmother at different stages of her life: as a baby, a girl, a adult, and finally, a elder. Each phase reflects the milestones and emotions that shaped her journey, weaving a tapestry of love, growth, and memory.

Since the animation uses a paper-cut style, each character’s joints are designed as separate pieces for movement. To enhance the dimensionality of clothing and hair, detailed elements are carefully divided and layered. These shared traits, such as facial structures, expressions, or specific details in clothing, help emphasize the familial bond and unity.

In paper-cut animation, a three-dimensional effect is achieved by layering intricately designed paper elements.

  • Characters: Individual body parts (head, limbs, clothing) are cut separately and layered slightly apart to create volume.
  • Clothing and Hair: Fine details like folds in fabric or strands of hair are layered and curled to mimic natural flow and texture.
  • Backgrounds: Multi-layered landscapes or objects, such as trees or buildings, are arranged at different distances, creating a sense of perspective.
